Anderson Silva came under fire after he failed a pre-fight drug test for his comeback fight against Nick Diaz at UFC 183 on Jan. 31. Silva reportedly tested positive for two banned substances. The disappointing event took another awkward turn as Diaz also tested positive for the use of marijuana metabolites prior the UFC 183 fight.

Silva has vehemently denied the allegation in a statement as reported by MMA Fighting. According to Silva, he has never failed a drug test in all the 19 fights that he fought in the UFC.

“I have not taken any performance-enhancing drugs,” Silva said. “My stance on drugs is, and will always be, the same - I’m an advocate for a clean sport.”

Silva added that he is currently working with his experts in his attempt to clear his name from the mess. He said that he will no longer be making any statements for now until his team instructs him to do so.

MMA Fighting further reported that Silva tested for Drostanolone metabolites and Androstane in a Jan. 9 out-of-competition drug test. Both substances are banned by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA). An investigation in Nevada on Feb. 17 is set to take place, in which Silva is expected to be given a temporary suspension from the sport. Another trial is scheduled either in March or April.

In light of Silva’s steroid use, UFC President Dana White has already spoken in a statement released by UFC and said that they fully support Silva as the Brazilian mixed martial artist goes through this entire ordeal. In addition, White also stressed that the also fully support the Commission’s out-of-competition drug test. White added that they will fully respect the decision of the Nevada State Athletic Commission.

Silva’s latest predicament has shocked the world of mixed martial arts. Some of his fellow UFC fighters have expressed their reactions on Twitter. Fans of the sport also couldn’t contain their feelings and belted them out on the popular social networking Web site. Here, we round up what they had to say on the issue that Silva is currently battling.
