Reality television series "Survivor," which is known for making participants live in almost inhospitable condition, is returning on Australian television next year. It is making a comeback after nearly 14 years.

“We have wanted to create Australian 'Survivor' for many years, so we are delighted and honoured to be able to bring this amazing show to viewers,” Network Ten chief programming officer, Beverley McGarvey, said on Thursday. “We look forward to adding Australian 'Survivor' to our repertoire across all platforms and will commence casting this month.”

The news about "Survivor" was announced at Network Ten's Upfronts, a star-studded event held to showcase the shows that can be expected on the channel in 2016.

Though the candidates have yet to be announced, Pop Sugar reported that the casting agency has been flooded with many applications. According to the press release, "the spectacular new family entertainment series will be set on a remote tropical island overseas and will launch on TEN in 2016."

“Australian Survivor” will be produced for Network Ten by Endemol Shine Australia, in association with format creator Castaway Television Productions Ltd.

Earlier “Survivor” and "Celebrity Survivor" aired in 2002 and 2006 on Nine and Network Seven, respectively, but both the shows were cancelled after first season because of low ratings. Speaking about that, McGarvey said that just because a show didn't work in the past, there is no reason for it to not work now.

In recent years, Network Ten has successfully launched local versions of global hits such as "The Bachelor," "Shark Tank," "I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!" and "The Bachelorette" by giving an Australian twist to established formats

Other shows that are to come out in 2016 include “Long Lost Family," “The Wrong Girl," “Brock," “All Star Family Feud” and “I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! Now”

"Survivor" is one of the world’s most talked-about reality television series. It features a bevy of bronzed contestants on a tropical Island.
