'Star Wars: Episode 7' character guide: Get to know the members of the 'The First Order'

In the latest trailers for “Star Wars: Episode 7,” new characters emerged, paving the way for fans to prepare themselves for the action to come this December. “The Force Awakens” is set approximately 30 years after 1983’s “Return of the Jedi.” It will be out in Australian theatres on Dec. 17.

Screen Rant writes that after Admiral Ackbar recognised that Emperor Palpatine’s death and defeat did not mean the end of the war, many Imperial warriors also prepared for more battles ahead. They regrouped and called themselves The First Order, using the resources and the people from the previous Empire. In the next three decades, they improved their fighting force and created new weapons to threaten the galaxy. There are rumours that The First Order had built a super-weapon even more powerful than the Death Star, which has the ability to destroy an entire star system.

Based on what we know so far about “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” below are the key members of The First Order.

Supreme Leader Snoke (Andy Serkis): A powerful wielder of the Dark Force. He is also Kylo Ren’s master.

Kylo Ren (Adam Driver): He takes orders from Supreme Leader Snoke. There were reports that Kylo Ren might be obsessed with Darth Vader and wanted to be a Sith, although he might not have the capacity to control the Dark Side. He might have made his own cross-guard lightsaber, which is different from a Sith’s actual lightsaber.

General Hux (Domhnall Gleeson): The leader of the Starkiller Base, which is the First Order’s military installation.

Captain Phasma (Gwendoline Christie): A First Order loyalist and leader of the next generation of Stormtroopers. She wears a special silver armour. Not much is known about Phasma’s background and there are talks that she might not even be human. It was suggested that Phasma might be one of The First Order’s most ambitious and ruthless warriors. She was described as a Jedi hunter by some, while others suggested that she might have been tasked to kill Finn after the latter abandoned The First Order and transferred to The Resistance.

“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” is the first film in what is reportedly a new “Star Wars” trilogy. Directed by J.J. Abrams, it is set to hit theatres in Australia, New Zealand and the UK on Dec. 17, according to the Internet Movie Database (IMDb). It will be shown in the US and Canada on Dec. 18.
