There are rumours of what may be an upcoming major update to Android's Play Store App version 4.4 and the reported update version may coincide with the release of Android 4.4 KitKat, which should be an indication of what the new OS has in store for Android users.

Although the exact date of release is still unknown to this point, work is in progress for this major update and here is a sneak peek as Android Police got screenshots of the latest revamp detailing the upcoming features of Android's Play Store App in version 4.4.

The screenshots leaked are interesting as they highlight Google's fine-tuning of the Android's Play Store App. A drastic overhaul is not expected but transition from the current overlay menu system is likely as this update aims a more seamless navigation. In the current version of the Play Store App 4.3.11, everything is crammed in a single menu whereas for the Play Store App 4.4, navigation is changed to large "hamburger"-style slide-out menu. The larger side-out navigation menu makes it smooth to move around Play Store's sections.

This large slide-out navigation menu contains:

  • Home
  • My apps,
  • My movies & TV (depends on which section you are in)
  • My Wishlist
  • Redeem

In this update, the menu only contains two options, the Settings and Help. Also, the UI transformations will come with a more card-like design which is similar to the newest Gmail, Google Now and Google Keep updates. Fortunately for Android users, this coming version will be compatible with devices running Android 2.2 and higher.

Currently, this new Android Play Store 4.4 UI is not yet complete, as other developments and tweaks are likely to be made before the app is released. There are no updates whether this update will be released alongside Android 4.4 or after the OS launch. Android users continue to speculate a launch date for the Android 4.4 KitKat on social media networks and other Google sources. Albeit dates that appear include Oct. 23, Oct 28 and Oct 31, many still wonder if Google will announce its new update randomly. October is barely over and there is still a lot of time for the Android KitKat to be official.
