2015 has been a pivotal year for Nintendo, as the gaming company suffered through the death of its former president Satoru Iwata. However, the year also saw forth a new president and an increase in Wii U sales along with the success of “Splatoon.” It seems the company is gearing itself for an even better 2016 by setting in motion the necessary steps to assure the success of its upcoming NX console.

A new report by the Eurogamer claims that the gaming giant has begun issuing developers with starter software kits for the still unrevealed Nintendo NX. The consoles which has been under wraps since its announcement earlier this year is rumoured to be revealed next year.

Aside from the software kits, Wall Street Journal notes that developers are given other items as well. The publication said that the kits will include a mobile unit, which is not surprising given the fact the Nintendo has expressed its plans to venture into mobile gaming. The mobile unit is apparently usable with the NX but it could stand as a standalone device as well. This also accounts for previous rumours that Nintendo will combine both its handheld and consoles offerings soon.

The separate mobile unit may also be the recently patented controller by Nintendo. The patented controller which looks similar to a Wii U Gamepad features a touch-screen, and an unique shoulder scroll wheels.

More details on the NX show that the upcoming console will be geared towards competing with the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Nintendo will apparently use high-end hardware that could rival the graphics and physics presented by today’s leading consoles.

Although the consoles have been kept under wraps for a while, the rumours continue to build up hype for the much awaited console. Nintendo noted that it will officially reveal the NX next year. It could likely reveal the console at E3 2016 in June.
