“My Kitchen Rules” viewers' hearts stopped during the “sudden death” round where NSW duo Luciano and Martino and VIC couple Zana and Gianni had three dished each to impress the judges. Judges Pete Evans, Manu Feildel and four other guest judges were present to handle the “sudden death” round of “My Kitchen Rules” Episode 28.

The Italian pair Luciano and Martino and series’ villains Zana and Gianni were both given low scores during last week’s Olympic Park challenge. However, fans were utterly surprised to see these two teams in the elimination challenge as both the teams were at top positions in the instant restaurant rounds. They secured two of the highest scores ever given.

The judges were highly impressed with Luciano and Martino’s entree of stuffed calamari with marinara sauce and cuttlefish ink risotto. Evans couldn't fault the dish. Compared to their entree, Zana and Gianni could not impress the judges with their entree of Montenegrin pizzette with caramelised onion and goats’ cheese. Judges found the loads of garlic overwhelming.

However, Luciano and Martino’s luck began to wane soon after. The two could not pack the same punch with their main of seafood lasagne. Zana and Gianni came back strong with their dish of white bean stew with Balkan sausage. The lack of sauce and undercooked seafood let the Italian duo down.

Although the judges were divided about their opinions on Zana and Gianni’s dessert of pistachio and walnut baklava with honey whipped ricotta, the couple came out with flying colours once they served their dessert. Although Luciano and Martino’s visually stunning chocolate and red wine pear cake was as mesmerising, it was not enough.

The boys fell four points short of Zana and Gianni’s score of 45, and were eliminated from “My Kitchen Rules” 2016.

Fans started tweeting soon afterwards. During the show, there was a lot of support from Luciano and Martino fans.

“Dear food gods, please help the #Italians kick Zana and Gianni in the teeth,” one tweet read.

“You can't call an entrèe faultless and a dessert just as good and give them a 7. Doesn't wash with me. #MKR #SuddenDeath,” a Luciano and Martino supporter tweeted.

Another Luciano and Martino supporter expressed sadness over the elimination.

Fans are also eagerly expecting a fight between Zana and Lauren.
