When the cast of the hit comedy series “Modern Family” Season 7 returns from the winter break, they will be aiming for new beginnings. Couples Claire (Julie Bowen) and Phil Dunphy (Ty Burrell) as well as Jay (Ed O’Neill) and Gloria Pritchett (Sofia Vergara) will be forming new friendships. Elsewhere, Mitchell Pritchett (Jesse Tyler Ferguson) will be having a belated birthday celebration. [Warning: This article contains spoilers for “Modern Family” Season 7 episode 10: “Playdates.”]

According to the synopsis shared by Disney ABC Press, Claire and Phil will be enjoying some time with a great new couple that they met while on vacation (guest stars Christine Lakin and Keegan-Michael Key). They have arranged to meet for dinner, but the problem is the Dunphys’ new friends never pick up the tab. Hilarity ensues when Claire forces Phil to be strong. She thinks that he must insist on making the other couple pay the bill this time around.

Meanwhile, Jay and Gloria are making new friends of their own. Gloria has arranged a playdate between their son Joe and the son of a couple that she thinks has a lot in common with her and Jay. When Jay sees that the husband is already in his eighties, he takes offence at the comparison.

While the rest of the adults deal with their issues with their new friends, Mitch looks for some fun with the kids. He drops in on the Dunphy children and tries to claim a coupon they gave him for a belated birthday celebration. Haley (Sarah Hyland), Alex (Ariel Winter) and Luke (Nolan Gould) are forced to come up with a plan.

As seen in the episode 10 promo video, the kids end up taking Mitch on a tour of celebrity homes around Hollywood. Guest star Ray Liotta will make a cameo appearance as himself.

“Modern Family” Season 7 returns on Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2016, at 9 pm ET in the US. Season 6 airs in Australia on channel Ten.
