Sports analysts believe Floyd Mayweather's recent victory over Victor Ortiz on Monday, Sep. 19 boxing bout was enough to reinstate him in the boxing's pound-for-pound king rankings.

However, the same analysts maintain the victory, which was controversial due to a knockout punch executed in an unsportsmanlike manner in the fourth round, was not enough to topple the incumbent pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao.

In a boxing Web site ringtv.craveonline.com/ratings, the Filipino world boxing champion, Manny Pacquiao remains the world's number one pound-for-pound fighter and number one boxer in the welterweight division.

Floyd Mayweather's victory secured the second slot in two rankings.

"Mayweather cannot leave for 16 months, defeat a good (not special) opponent in a less-than-satisfying manner and expect to regain his status as the number one fighter in the world," boxing analyst Michael Rosenthal wrote on his blog on ringtv.craveonline.com/blog

Rosenthal explained Pacquiao has an edge over Mayweather in pound-for-pound rankings because Manny is more active as a professional boxer than Mayweather despite Pacquiao's not very outstanding performance in his last three fights.

The rankings are not easily calculated because both boxers fought in three welterweight bouts in the last two years.

But ringtv.craveonline gives the first ranking to Pacquiao because he is the incumbent number one fighter.

"Pacquiao can be overtaken only if he slips up or if your recent accomplishments are far superior to his. Neither of those criteria apply here," Rosenthal concluded on his blog.

Pacquiao is set to face Mexican archrival Juan Manuel Marquez in an epic trilogy on November 12 in Nevada, Las Vegas.
