Retired manager Sir Alex Ferguson reportedly gave his former Manchester United charge, Cristiano Ronaldo, a ring, in an attempt to convince him to move back to Old Trafford.

While the Portuguese superstar has recently stated that his future lies with Real Madrid, such was also the case when he was still with the Red Devils in 2009, before making a surprise summer move to the Santiago Bernabeu in that same year.

Such bold move by Ferguson was confirmed by established football agent Francois Gallardo, while further revealing that the said blockbuster deal will depend on Ronaldo's representative Jorge Mendes.

"On Wednesday Cristiano received a call from Ferguson (about returning to United)," said Gallardo.

"He was happy at Real Madrid but the whole transfer depends on Jorge Mendes"

The former Sporting Lisbon man still has four years on his contract and will cost United more than a hundred-million pounds, according to sources.
