LG has recently announced the 2015 flagship G4 in a special event organised in both London and New York. The tech titan has apparently made some radical design changes along with a bumped up camera configuration. Samsung, on the other hand, has finally moved away from the ubiquitous plastic design seen in the predecessor Galaxy S5 to an enriched mix of metal and glass design in the Galaxy S6. Therefore, readers who are interested in purchasing the killer Samsung Galaxy S6 or the stunning LG G4 should check out this comparison of specifications, features, release date and price.

LG G4 vs. Galaxy S6: Display, Design And Size

The LG G4 features a 5.5-inch IPS LCD “Quantum” display and 1,440 x 2,560 pixels resolution. This trickles down to a solid pixel density of 538 ppi. To top it off, the new Quantum display panel apparently offers 20 percent wider colour reproduction and 25 percent brightness improvement, along with a solid 50 percent higher contrast rate when compared to the G3, writes GSM Arena. The Samsung Galaxy S6, on the other hand, comes with a relatively small 5.1-inch Super AMOLED display and Quad HD resolution of 1,440 x 2,560 pixels. These screen details translate to an impressive pixel density of 577 ppi. It is worth reminding that, the higher the pixel density, the screen looks vivid and sharper.

When it comes to design, LG has apparently employed “genuine leather back” on the G4, which elevates the phone’s look to a whole new level. In addition, the tech titan has apparently used “vegetable tanning” on the flagship. According to GSM Arena, this terminology is widely used in the luxury leather industry. Adding a cherry on top, only a 10 percent of the total leather goods are apparently processed this way and hence, it brings in the exclusivity factor to the LG G4. Other than the leather back, the handset will reportedly come with plastic casing as well. This plastic shell will apparently flaunt a hammered pattern in ceramic white or metallic gray hues.

On the other hand, the Galaxy S6 comes with a brand new design philosophy that is very much in contrast to other Galaxy S series of phones. In hindsight, the South Korean tech titan has been constantly criticised for the plastic-looking flagship phones. Taking a cue from the never-ending feedback and criticism, Samsung has seemingly re-invented itself in the design sphere with the new S6. To be specific, the leather back panel seen in the predecessor S5 has been replaced by glass material. To top it off, the Galaxy S6 sports a metal frame surrounding the corners of the handset, similar to the Note 4 phablet. Overall, the new Galaxy flagship is effortlessly stunning and durable, Tech2 notes.

Speaking of size, the thickness and weight of the LG handset are 0.39-inch and 155 g respectively, while the Samsung device is 0.27-inch thick and weighs 138 g. Hence, it is very evident that, the Galaxy S6 is way too lighter and thinner than the G4.

LG G4 vs. Galaxy S6: Hardware, Software And Memory

The LG G4 is powered by a hexa-core (Qualcomm Snapdragon 808) processor, while the Samsung Galaxy S6 comes powered by an octa-core (Exynos 7420) processor. In spite of the difference, both the smartphones are backed by 3 GB of RAM configuration.

On the software front, the Galaxy S6 runs on Android v5.0.2 Lollipop along with the latest version of TouchWiz UI. Meanwhile, the LG G4 runs on Android v5.1 Lollipop with LG Optimus UX 4.0 UI on top of it. When it comes to memory configuration, the LG phone offers 32 GB of storage space. The Galaxy S6, on the other hand, comes with a choice of 32 GB, 64 GB and 128 GB of storage. While the Samsung device does not support expandable storage, the LG handset supports microSD card slot for expansion up to 128 GB.

LG G4 vs. Galaxy S6: Camera And Battery

Both the handsets feature the same 16 MP primary camera unit along with optical image stabilisation (OIS) and HDR support. However, the LG G4 comes with a dual-LED flash, while the Galaxy S6 settles for regular LED flash. Notably, the G4’s camera app offers a slew of advanced features like high ISO settings, manual shutter speed adjustment, live histogram and the capability to record RAW images. To top it off, the G4 can capture panorama shots up to a stunning 104 MP, whereas the Galaxy S6 settles for only 60 MP, notes GSM Arena. Additionally, there’s a 5 MP secondary shooter at the front of the Samsung handset, while the LG device trumps the S6 with a killer 8 MP unit as the selfie camera.

When it comes to the battery configuration, the LG G4 trumps the Galaxy S6 fair and square. The S6 features a non-removable Li-Ion 2,550 mAh unit, while the G4 comes equipped with a removable Li-Ion 3,000 mAh unit.

LG G4 vs. Galaxy S6: Additional Features

1. Both the handsets support wireless charging feature. Aside from the standard connectivity options, both the smartphones support Infrared port, LTE and NFC.

2. Samsung Galaxy S6 sports a fingerprint scanner, whereas the LG device doesn’t. Additionally, the Samsung device supports the new payment system dubbed Samsung Pay, which is apparently similar to the Apple Pay.

LG G4 vs. Galaxy S6: Price And Release Date

Speaking of LG G4 price, the smartphone will reportedly set the buyers back by $599.99 under T-Mobile network in the U.S. Plus, the LG G4 release date is apparently set for May-end in South Korea and the device will be sold in 170 countries. Meanwhile, the Samsung Galaxy S6 can be availed at a price of $599.99 under Verizon network.
