LG recently unveiled its flagship G4 in a special event scheduled in London and New York City. The company has opted for a radical new design, in addition to housing a killer camera unit. Apple, on the other hand, has finally moved away from the small displays seen in the predecessors to a phablet-like 5.5-inch display with the iPhone 6 Plus. Therefore, readers who are interested in purchasing the trust-worthy iPhone 6 Plus or the new and shining LG G4 should check out this comparison of specifications, features, release date and price.

LG G4 vs. iPhone 6 Plus: Display, Design And Size

Both the handsets feature the same 5.5-inch display. However, the difference comes in the form of resolution and display technology. While the LG G4 features an IPS LCD “Quantum” display bundled with 1,440 x 2,560 pixels resolution, the iPhone 6 Plus comes with LED-backlit IPS LCD screen with 1,080 x 1,920 pixels resolution. LG’s Quantum display panel reportedly offers 20 percent wider colour reproduction and 25 percent brightness enhancement, along with a killer 50 percent higher contrast rate than the predecessor, writes GSM Arena. In the meantime, the pixel densities of the Apple and LG devices stand at 401 ppi and 538 ppi, respectively. Also it is worth mentioning that, the higher the pixel density, the display looks vivid and sharper.

When it comes to design, the South Korean tech giant has apparently used “genuine leather back” on the flagship G4, which gives the handset a premium-look. Plus, LG has reportedly opted for “vegetable tanned cover” on the G4. GSM Arena says, this terminology is predominantly used in the luxury leather industry. To top it off, only 10 percent of the leather goods are apparently handled this way and thus, it offers the exclusivity factor to the LG G4. In addition to the leather back, the device will also come with plastic casings. Notably, the plastic shell choices will come with a hammered pattern in ceramic white or metallic gray colours.

On the other hand, Apple apparently has utilised the design elements of the iPad Air series to elevate the iPhone 6 Plus. The handset features a stunning metallic exterior that almost resembles a ceramic base and the back shell is extremely comfortable to hold. To top it off, the handset comes with rounded corners and the overall design makes the device look ultra-sleek, notes Tech Radar. But then, the phone’s display is apparently made of “Ion Strengthened Glass,” instead of the tougher sapphire crystal as rumoured earlier.

Speaking of size, the thickness and weight of the LG smartphone are 0.39-inch and 155 g respectively, whereas the Apple device is 0.28-inch thick and weighs 172 g. Hence, it is very evident that, the iPhone 6 Plus is way too thinner than the iPhone 6 Plus, however, the G4 is lighter when compared to the Apple handset.

LG G4 vs. iPhone 6 Plus: Hardware, Software And Memory

The LG G4 smartphone is powered by a hexa-core (Snapdragon 808) processor, while the iPhone 6 Plus comes powered with a dual-core (Apple A8) processor. In the meantime, the G4 trumps the iPhone 6 Plus in the RAM department with a killer 3 GB unit, while the Apple handset settles for just 1 GB.

On the software front, the iPhone 6 Plus runs on iOS 8, which is upgradable to iOS 8.3. Meanwhile, the LG G4 runs on Android 5.1 Lollipop OS along with LG’s Optimus UX 4.0 UI on top of it. As far as the memory goes, the LG device offers 32 GB of built-in storage space. The iPhone 6 Plus, on the other hand, comes with a choice of 16 GB, 64 GB or 128 GB of storage. While the Apple device does not support expandable storage, the G4 handset comes with a microSD card slot for expansion up to 128 GB.

LG G4 vs. iPhone 6 Plus: Camera And Battery

The LG G4 sports a killer 16 MP rear-facing camera unit with optical image stabilisation (OIS) and HDR support. The Apple iPhone 6 Plus, meanwhile, comes with an 8 MP unit with OIS and HDR support. Plus, both the handsets feature dual-LED flash.

In addition, the LG smartphone’s camera app provides a slew of advanced features like the high ISO setting, manual shutter speed adjustment, live histogram and the ability to capture RAW images. The stand out feature of the G4, however, is the capability to record panorama shots up to an impressive 104 MP, notes GSM Arena. At the front, the Apple device has a 1.2 MP secondary shooter, whereas the LG device thrashes the iPhone 6 Plus with a killer 8 MP unit.

When it comes to the battery configuration, the iPhone 6 Plus features a non-removable Li-Po 2,915 mAh unit, while the LG handset comes equipped with a slightly better Li-Ion 3,000 mAh removable unit.

LG G4 vs. iPhone 6 Plus: Additional Features

1. While the G4 supports wireless charging feature, the Apple handset doesn’t. Aside from the standard connectivity options, both the phones support 4G LTE and NFC.

2. The iPhone 6 Plus sports a fingerprint scanner Touch ID, whereas the LG device doesn’t. Additionally, the Apple device supports the new payment system Apple Pay. Furthermore, the Apple phone supports Siri, the virtual digital assistant.

LG G4 vs. iPhone 6 Plus: Price And Release Date

Speaking of LG G4 price, the handset will reportedly set the buyers back by $599.99 under T-Mobile in the U.S. Furthermore, the LG G4 release date is reportedly set for May-end in South Korea and the handset will also be sold in 170 countries.
