News of Jon Hamm’s split from his girlfriend of 18 years, Jennifer Westfeldt, has had his fans rejoicing on social media. Twitter was filled with happy and excited posts from female netizens after the couple released a statement yesterday to confirm the breakup.

Female fans of the “Mad Men” star took to Twitter to express their excitement and glee after learning of his relationship status. One user named Jennifer Wilson wrote, “So Jon Hamm is single! Is it wrong this news makes me happy?!!” while another named Joan Kennedy tweeted, “Knowing that Jon Hamm is single makes everyday 3x better.”

However, fans of the couple were also surprised by the news. A post from People on Twitter is filled with comments from users who expressed their sadness about Hamm and Westfeldt’s breakup.

A fan named Ashlee wrote, “ @ people Nooooo! Loved these two together. What is happening?! ” while another named Karen McMillian said, “@people Thats so sad! NOBODY stays together anymore. I thought they would.”

A source told Entertainment Online (ET) that Jon and Jennifer have actually already split for a few months now. The source claimed the actress got tired of making the relationship work because of the actor’s “party-heavy lifestyle.”

The insider further told ET that Westfeldt wanted Hamm to “grow up” but he “never wanted to.” Jennifer reportedly got tired of acting like his mother.

Meanwhile, another source told US Weekly that the couple has been fighting for a while now. Sadly, the source continued, they decided to end their fights with a breakup.

It’s believed the split was already inevitable. The couple were reportedly already hit with split rumours for months. Their last public appearance together was believed to be during the New York premiere of “Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp” on July 22.

In a joint statement released exclusively by People on Monday, Jon and Jennifer expressed their “ great sadness” over their mutual separation after 18 years of shared history and love.

“We will continue to be supportive of each other in every way possible moving forward,” the couple said, according to the statement shared by the publication.
