The Avengers are not the only ones who are called upon to defend the earth and battle Thanos in Infinity War. This November, Marvel’s Jessica Jones is coming to Netflix as a prologue to The Defenders, a gritty street-side equivalent of the Avengers.

Netflix dropped the trailer of “Jessica Jones” over the weekend. Krysten Ritter is playing the titular character, and in the trailer, the character, whose face is buried in pillows, can be seen using her superhuman powers on the poor alarm clock.

Who is Jessica Jones? She is part of Marvel comic world, and she first made her appearance in “Alias” in 2001. Created by Michael Bendis and Michael Gaydos, Jones is depicted as someone who possesses superhuman abilities and is immune to injuries, and she can fly at supersonic speed.

In the Netflix’s series, Jones will be shown as someone who is struggling to scrape through. She is an ex-superhero turned private investigator who gets pulled into cases involving high-powered people. Jones return to normal routine is marred by her PTSD because of her short stint as a superhero.

Speaking about the character, Melissa Rosenberga, showrunner of “Jessica Jones,” told the press (via ScreenRant) during the 2015 Television Critics Association tour, “Jessica is about paying rent, getting the next client. She’s dealing with a fairly dark past. She’s trying to get through the day.”

She also said that she is focused on saving her apartment and not the city. Jones, however, has not shed her desire to do something good, but “there are a lot of personality issues for her that can get in the way.”

Jessica Jones of Netflix original series is a brawler and a drunkard, and the viewers will not see her donning her superwoman costume or hiding her real face behind a mask. “She’s just who she is,” the showrunner said.

It is not yet clear how much Netflix’s Jessica Jones will deviate from her comic book personality, but Bendis has assured that the TV series will be faithful to its source material.

“Jessica Jones” premieres on Nov. 20 on Netflix.
