The Season 2 premiere of “Jane The Virgin” picks up just 9 minutes after the end of the Season 1 finale. Jane finds out that her baby is missing in the opening minutes, and the episode quickly kicks into high gear as everyone scrambles to find baby Mateo.

Season 2 opens with a recap of what took place in Season 1. In the finale, baby Mateo was taken from Jane (Gina Rodriguez) by a fake nurse and was handed over to Sin Rostro (Bridget Regan). Season 2 picks up just minutes after the kidnapping. The real nurse arrives and looks for the baby. Jane, baby daddy Rafael Solano (Justin Baldoni) and the rest of the Villanueva women are shaken when they realise that someone else took the baby.

Jane is starting to break down when her ex-fiance, detective Michael Cordero (Brett Dier), gives her a call. He tells her that Sin Rostro just called him, and he knows how to get the baby back. He rushes to the hospital and explains that she will return the baby in exchange of a brooch that Dr. Luisa Alver (Yara Martinez) took from her.

Luisa is Sin Rostro’s ex-lover and Rafael’s sister. Michael, Rafael and Jane all rush to get the brooch from Luisa. Once they retrieve it, Michael makes the exchange. He finds out that the brooch contains a chip that has all the information about Sin Rostro’s plastic surgery clients.

She has been performing plastic surgery on big time criminals in order to change their identities. Michael has been working on the case for years, and gaining information on every single client would be a big break for his case. However, he chooses to let go of the evidence in favour of getting baby Mateo back.

Rafael and Jane are ecstatic to have their baby back. They all return home and try to move on from the incident. Michael wants to get back together with Jane, and he's struggling with Rafael’s presence in Jane’s life. However, he sees that the baby needs his father to be around.

Meanwhile, Jane’s parents, Xiomara (Andrea Navedo) and Rogelio (Jaime Camil), finally admit that they got married in Las Vegas while on a drunken binge. They had been hiding the information because they didn’t want to rain on Jane’s parade. They promise to get the marriage annulled and everyone just laughs off the incident.

Elsewhere, Petra (Yael Grobglas) is still busy plotting a way to get Rafael back. She decides to artificially inseminate herself with her stolen sample of Rafael’s sperm. Things get complicated when Rafael’s assistant confronts her about the stolen sample. It remains to be seen if the insemination worked and if the assistant tampered with the sample.

“Jane the Virgin” airs Mondays at 9:00 pm ET on The CW. The series will return in Australia on Tuesday, November 17, at 8:30 pm AEST on Fox 8.
