In 2014, a lot of iPhone 4S owners will end their two year contracts and look for a brand new phone. Some of these iPhone 4S users will think of getting another iPhone, just in time for the rumoured iPhone 6 in 2014. Here we take a look at what to expect. Comparing the iPhone 6 to Apple's aging smartphone, the iPhone 4S.

In Oct 2011, Apple released the iPhone 4S, a successor to its iPhone 4 that ushered in the iOS 5 in addition to Apple's virtual assistant which remains prevalent on the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touches, Siri. While the iPhone 4S is aging, surprisingly it is still on the shelves as a budget variant for those who don't want to shell out $99 for a plastic iPhone 5C or $199 or more for its flagship, iPhone 5S.

An important factor is the price as Apple will likely put the iPhone 4S on sale until the iPhone 6 arrives. It will be a tempting option for people on a budget. The iPhone 6 release date is still months away with the rumour mill pointing to summer or fall or even as early as May 2014.

The iPhone 4S remained a similar design as the iPhone 4. The iPhone 4S features a plastic front with a glass back and a metal band on the side. In its time, the 4S was one of the most elegant smartphones in the market but with more premium factors, including the iPhone 5 and iPhone 5S, smartphones are now made of aluminum and glass.

The iPhone 6 is expected to feature a design different than the iPhone 5S with slimmer and lighter form. It will most likely boast of a larger display than the iPhone 4S' 3.5 Retina display. iPhone 6 rumours have pointed to a 4.5-inch to a 5-inch display but one report suggested that Apple is working on two display sizes such as a 4.7-inch with 1280 x 720 display and a 5.7-inch with 1920 x 1080 one. Rumours also say that the iPhone 6 will come with a Sapphire Glass display, ditching its already durable Gorilla Glass material. Other rumours show of a fantastic wraparound display for the iPhone 6.

The iPhone 4S has an A5 processor that's been replaced with a 64 bit A7 processor on the iPhone 5S. While the iPhone 6 might retain the 64-bit processor, it still has a better camera than the iPhone 4S and a long battery life. Apple is also expected to retain the fingerprint reader and is even speculated to have the NFC, eye scanning and even facial recognition technologies. While the iPhone 4S has Apple's latest software, iOS 7, it will most likely get an iOS 8 update in 2014, which the iPhone 6 will undoubtedly have.
