Amazon recently renewed its legal drama TV series “Goliath” for a second season. The renewal comes after actor Billy Bob Thornton won a Golden Globe for Best Actor in Television Series Drama in January.

“Goliath” follows the story of Billy Mcbride (Billy Bob Thornton), a disgraced lawyer who now works as a personal injury attorney. The law firm that he helped build had fired him while his wife had left him. Later, a woman approaches him with a wrongful death case for which she seeks Billy’s assistance. After taking on the case, Mcbride realises that the path to obtaining justice will not be a piece of cake. He is met by death threats, harassment and even arrests on false charges.

The series has been critically acclaimed and scored 65 out of 100 on Metacritic based on 26 reviews. It also received a 77 percent ‘Certified Fresh’ rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The consensus reads: "Compelling performances from an excellent cast—led by standout Billy Bob Thornton—propel David E Kelley's 'Goliath' into must-watch TV territory."

Amazon Studios’ comedy, drama & VR head Joe Lewis was recently reported praising the show as well as Billy’s performance. “Amazon is proud of Goliath and Billy Bob’s amazing, Golden Globe-winning performance,” he had said in a statement, per Deadline. “Great shows like this help elevate the art of storytelling. We can’t wait to bring our customers a new season soon,” Lewis added.

“Goliath” season 2 will have Billy Bob Thornton reprise his role as Billy Mcbridge, which has been confirmed earlier. The series’ first season had William Hurt, Maria Bello, Olivia Thirlby and Molly Parker in the supporting cast. But according to a previous statement by David E Kelly, the series' second instalment will see only some of the previous cast members reprising their roles.

"It would definitely be a new case," Kelly said to the Hollywood Reporter in October. "There are other cases that come behind it," he added.

Kelly, who is currently executive producing the HBO series “Big Little Lies,” was previously reported sharing his plan of three seasons for “Goliath” with the Hollywood Reporter. “We originally thought three years, that would be great,” he said. “It could go more; it could go less,” he added.

“Goliath” season 2 is expected to arrive later within the year. Meanwhile, fans can watch the show's previous season exclusively on the online streaming service, Amazon Prime Video.
