FX Cold War spy drama “The Americans” has been renewed for a fifth season. Recent spoilers reveal that the upcoming instalment will see Jennings surrounded by a flood of tense situations. It has also been said “The Americans” season 5 will focus more on the couple’s children, Henry (Keidrich Sellati) and Paige Jennings (Holly Taylor).

“The Americans” host FX recently released several teasers for the series’ upcoming instalment. In one of the trailers, the couple’s daughter, Paige, is seen involved in a rigorous training session with her mother, Elizabeth (Keri Russell). “You have to be willing to do anything to protect yourself,” Elizabeth says to Paige in the trailer.

Further spoilers reveal the tension escalating from the Cold War also takes puts a strain on Elizabeth and Philip’s (Matthew Rhys) marriage. The couple is burdened with worries owing to the budding romance between Paige and Matthew (Daniel Flaherty), which they try to contain, but to no avail. Paige and Matthew were seen kissing by the latter’s father, FBI Agent Stan Beeman (Noah Emmerich), who told Philip about it.

The romance between the kids poses a threat to the Soviet KGB officers because of Stan’s association with the FBI. On the flip side, Stan also is Philip’s best friend. Here’s how the official synopsis of “The Americans” season 5 episode 1 reads:

“As Philip and Elizabeth struggle to contain the risks from Paige’s growing relationship with Matthew Beeman, the Centre sends them on an operation unlike any they’ve ever had before, straining their family and marriage to its limits.”

Actor Matthew Rhys meanwhile revealed additional spoilers from the show. He hinted at the possibility of fresh complications from the FBI in “The Americans” upcoming season. “They’re kicking us while we’re down. They’re not gonna stop,” the actor was reported as saying. Stan, studying the evidence-filled bulletin board, goes on to scrutinise some new faces in the Soviet Embassy, allegedly the Jennings couple in disguise, per TV Line.

The series’ fifth season will also have the Jennings introduce their children to the idea of showing their loyalty towards Russia, despite the fact that they grew up Americans. However, Paige seems to be in a fix, especially after seeing her mother kill a man who tries to rob them.

According to reports, the show was renewed for its fifth and sixth seasons in May 2016. It has been alleged that season 5 will have 13 episodes while the sixth (also the final season) will end with only 10.
