It's not surprising that retailers and carriers are confirming the Samsung Galaxy S III's phenomenal pre-order figures. The Galaxy S 3 specs are apparently revolutionary, and the device is without a doubt the best Android smartphone to date. But the Galaxy S 3 is far from perfect.

Here are the top reasons why the Galaxy S 3 won't please everyone:

(1) Not ugly but not pretty either. (2) It has an overly plastic feel. The Galaxy Nexus, a phone co-developed by Google Inc. and Samsung, has dazzled pundits with its curved display and sleek design. Although slim and light, the Galaxy S 3 has not received praise for design, including the oval shape, rounded corners and overly plastic layout. An iPhone 4S, HTC One X, or Sony Xperia S owner couldn't say that the Galaxy S 3 is a better looking piece of hardware.

(3) Innovative features are overhyped. Too much hype only raises the bar higher and highlights a device-maker's inability to satisfy hard-to-please consumers. Note that rival Apple Inc.'s marketing experts had a rare misstep -- they let the mythical iPhone 5 (with an all new design) rumors to prosper when the Steve-Jobs founded company was instead releasing an iPhone 4S that recycled the predecessor's design and still didn't have 4G LTE, among others, when the rumor mill was suggesting a mythical iPhone 5 with an all new design. Samsung Electronics' new flagship device that boasts of "greatness" and "intelligence" promises extraordinary features. But these features will be available in most high-end phones this year -- the quad-core processor (HTC and ASUS and others have their own quad-core run devices), the S-Voice (it's just like the iPhone 4S's Siri minus the witty banter), and Ice Cream Sandwich (most new phones will use the same OS). It has a bunch of fancy features -- S Beam, Buddy photo share, Share shot; AllShare Play, AllShare Cast; Smart stay, Social tag, Group tag, Face zoom, Face slide show; Direct call, Smart alert, Tap to top, Camera quick access; Pop up play, among many more. But with the exception of eye-recognition (which keeps the phone awake when the user is staring at the device), the device's unique features are not really necessary or useful and will only guzzle up the 2100 mAh battery. A bigger battery like those found in the Motorola Droid RAZR MAXX would have made the device more appealing.

(4) Camera is impressive BUT... The Nokia 808 PureView has a large, high-resolution 41 megapixel sensor camera, powered by high-performance Carl Zeiss optics and new pixel oversampling technology. A smartphone need not generate video or images as impressive as those from DLSR cameras. But the Galaxy S 3 just has an 8 MP rear camera and 1.9 MP camera that are not any better than the shooters in the HTC One X and the iPhone 4S. Last year's Galaxy S 2 also had an 8 MP cam. Although clever features like smile detection and face recognition have been added and the device indeed takes crisp quality pictures, the GS3 doesn't outdo rivals in terms of image and video quality.

(5) There's nothing special with the screen. The Galaxy S 3 indeed has a gorgeous massive 4.8-inch display. Not everyone would notice this but so called techies have pointed out that while the Galaxy S2 has a Super AMOLED Plus display, the S3 is missing the 'Plus' in its display -- meaning the S3 has fewer sub-pixel per pixel than its predecessor. While offering among the largest displays, the Galaxy S 3 doesn't provide the sharpest. The iPhone 4S, while having just a 3.5-inch display, in fact offers higher pixel density per inch at 326 ppi compared to just 306 ppi for the Galaxy S3. The GS3 doesn't best its Android rivals either -- e.g. the HTC One X (312 ppi) and the Xperia S (342 ppi).

So, are you getting a Galaxy S3?
