Since last week, the number of deaths caused by the scorching heat of summer in Egypt has reached 106. However, eight more people have reportedly been the victim of the heatwave.

The Mideast of the nation is being beaten up by the heat since late July. Egyptians summers are always hot, but the temperature crossed its usual limit by reaching 46 degree Celsius across the south Egypt. The Health Ministry said that the eight people who died recently mostly included elderly people.

The people living in the northern region of Egypt had little relief with the temperature falling a little on Monday, but the southern residents are still under the heat pressure and are supposed to remain so over the next few weeks.

According to officials, the people who died include eight patients from a psychiatric hospital situated towards the north of Cairo and three detainees in a prison.

The Ministry of Health reports specified that hundreds of people have fallen sick across 15 governorates on Monday. Since the beginning of August, more than 100 people died of the scorching heat, including patients and prisoners who fell prey to the poor ventilation inside their premises.

Khanka Psychiatric Hospital has reportedly bought seven new air conditioning units on Monday after the death of 11 patients due to the scorching heat of summer, Mostafa Shehata, the director of the hospital told state-run news agency MENA.

Likewise, Shubra police station also installed new AC machines inside the cells after the death of three prisoners because of lack of ventilation, the Qaliubiya security director told MENA.
