“The Block: Triple Threat” has got some major changes after the disastrous recent season. The Nine Network reality show is hoping to prevent what happened on season 9 when two teams walked away with just $10,000 profit after months of hard work.

Recapping last season’s controversial finale, brothers Shannon and Simon won the show with a $335,000 profit plus $100,000 bonus prize. Married couple Chris and Jenna also took home a decent profit of $310,000, but the other three couples just made a paltry sum at the end. Newlyweds Karstan and Maxine only got $40,000, while Michael and Carlene, as well as Darren and Dee, just made $10,000 profit each.

The show is now trying to avoid a repeat of the “Glasshouse” disappointing finale by adding three new buyers’ advocates for “The Block: Triple Threat,” who, along with regular judges Shaynna Blaze, Neale Whitaker and Darren Palmer, will help contestants along the way.

Frank Valentic from Advantage Property, Nicole Jacobs from Jacobs Buying Group, and Greville Pabst from WBP Property Group will help the teams to build homes that can make a profit in the auction block, rather than properties that just look good but unsellable.

The “room reveal” edition of the upcoming series every Sunday will feature the judges’ scores, with the winning team adding $10,000 towards their renovation. Every Monday will see the buyers’ advocates’ scores tallied along with the contestants’ scores for each other’s rooms. The winning team for the week will get $5,000.

“Everyone has an opinion on the rooms and apartments on ‘The Block’ but no one’s opinion matters more for the contestants than the actual buyers on auction day,” executive producer Julian Cress told news.com.au. “We thought giving them some feedback from people who might be ultimately bidding on their apartment would be a valuable addition to the program.”

Sources from the network also told the Web site that the judges and the buyers’ advocates have different scores for the same rooms. Blaze, Palmer or Whittaker will also mentor teams that get the lowest scores on “room reveal” episodes, giving them advice on their designs.

“The Block: Triple Threat” will see the return of three former couples, Dee and Darren, and season 7 couples Bec and George, and Matt and Kim. There will also be six new teams that will be vying for the three spots in the competition. The show will air on January 27.
