Hannah New and Luke Arnold, cast members of “Black Sails,” spoke about their characters in Season 2 of the show in an interview. The two actors play the roles of Eleanor Guthrie and John Silver respectively in the TV series. [Warning: Spoilers Alert]

The relationship among the characters in “Black Sails” is complex. There is constant shifting of loyalties, with each character looking out for their own self interest. Hannah and Luke answered some of the questions in an interview with Collider and spoke about how these factors affect the story line in the TV series.

Luke Arnold spoke about the relationship between John Silver and Captain Flint in “Black Sails” Season 2. The actor said the Silver will have to play the same role Gates played in the previous season, by standing next to Captain Flint and ensuring the crew’s support to his plans.

The two characters are “not comfortable” with the situation that demands that they trust each other, Luke revealed. But they may have misjudged each other and Episode 4 of the season showed that Silver can be “bad” and Flint had a “soft corner,” Luke added.

The relationship between the two characters gets complicated with the return of Billy Bones. Billy, Flint and Silver will have a triangular relationship, the actor noted. Billy and Silver may seem to be at odds with each other at first, but they will soon realise that one man can’t be a match to Flint and the two men will have to form a reluctant alliance for the welfare of other men.

Hannah New talked about how Max had become such a successful business woman in “Black Sails” Season 2. Hannah pointed out that Eleanor has underestimated Max and the character has become a rival of Eleanor. She also emphasized the point that although Eleanor has been in a relationship with Vane, the two may not stay together for long. Vane’s views of Nassau are completely different from Eleanor’s vision for the island.

One character that fans of the franchise may get to see well beyond “Black Sails” Season 2 is John Silver. Luke Arnold explained that for him playing the character meant finding out the elements to “plant now,” knowing that his character will go on to become the “ultimate pirate” one day.
