Cate Blanchett has nabbed the top award for leading actress at the Screen Actors Guild Awards 2014 for her role in “Blue Jasmine.” The “Queen Elizabeth” star is the only Australian to receive the recognition from the award giving body, and she is reportedly “on track to the Oscars.”

Blanchett received the nomination for her lead role in “Blue Jasmine,” a movie by Woody Allen. The actress played the character of a rich New Yorker who reached the lowest point of her life when her husband got embroiled in a financial fraud.

The SAG awards, noted by news.com.au, has always been considered “the first test for Oscars hopefuls.” Actors nominated in the lead roles in the SAG have always had great chances at winning at the much coveted Academy Awards.

Nominations on the SAG have been announced in Los Angeles, Wednesday, Dec. 11. Presentations of the awards will be held on Jan.18, 2014.

Blanchett is in the company of great actresses are also nominated in the lead role category. These include, Sandra Bullock (“Gravity”), Dame Judi Dench (“Philomena”), Meryl Streep (“August: Osage Country”) and Emma Thompson (“Saving Mr. Banks”).

The Australian actress last won the SAG in 2005 for her role as Katharine Hepburn in “The Aviator,” she playing opposite Leonardo DiCaprio, who played the title role. Blancett won the Oscars for the same role at the same award season.

Meanwhile, while Blanchett could not be more excited for the recognition at the SAG, things may not be too well for other Aussie stars including Hugh Jackman, Geoffrey Rush and Chris Hemsworth. These actors said, news.com.au. may have been overlooked in the recently announced SAG awards.

Jackman has earned rave reviews for his role in “Prisoners,” while Chris Hemsworth has been praised for his portrayal of James Hunt character - - a ladies’ man in the 19703 and a British Formula one racer in the biopic "Rush."

News.com.au noted that SAG’s biggest snub for Aussie stars may have been for Idris Elba for her role in “Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom.” Geoffrey Rush is noted to have been overlooked at this year’s SAG as well for his role in “The Book Thief.” The “Pirate of the Carribbeans” actor could have been nominated in the Best Supporting Actor category, added the news Web site.
