‘Adventure Time’ recap: Princess Bubblegum deals with self-discovery

A new episode of “Adventure Time” titled “Jelly Beans Have Power” has seen Princess Bubblegum (Heidi Hynden Walch) dealing with self-discovery. Princess Bubblegum has discovered new elemental powers, which are really cool. However, she is self-conscious about the new powers she got.
The reason behind Princess Bubblegum being self-conscious is due to Slime Princess’ (Maria Bamford) ability to control her new powers well. The latter is able to shoot huge waves of slime. She even utilises them in order to push herself through the air.
Princess Bubblegum, on the other hand, can only fart a single jelly bean at a time out of her palms. She is not able to spout into the new aspect of her powers.
“Jelly Beans Have Power” also featured what is holding Princess Bubblegum back. The said chapter was an introspective look at how to interpret the various aspects of her identity. It was another episode that brought a valuable message, which is to count on friends to help you realise your potential and to learn to trust yourself.
Avid “Adventure Time” viewers know that Princess Bubblegum is used to utilising science as her guiding principle. She possesses the elemental abilities that are magical in nature as noted by AV Club. However, she does not feel comfortable using them because she does not know how they are supposed to be utilised.
Although Princess Bubblegum has her own share of weaknesses, and that is being not sure of herself, she has Chatsberry (Alan Tudyk) as her spiritual guide. He is a Candy Elemental and one of the few “Adventure Time” characters who have existed before the Mushroom War. Fans would remember him as the character who wears pink and white striped candy swirl.
The new episode of “Adventure Time” was written and storyboarded by Aleks Sennwald and Hannah K Nyström.
Fans in Australia can catch the ongoing eight-part series on Cartoon Network. “Adventure Time: Islands” miniseries has premiered on Jan. 30 and will run through Feb. 2.
