Abigail Breslin has taken a page from Taylor Swift’s book, and trashed her ex-boyfriend in a song. The former child star has released the music video for “You Suck,” which is seemingly aimed at her ex-boyfriend, 5 Seconds of Summer guitarist Michael Clifford, and has prompted thousands of the Aussie singer’s tween fans in revolt against Breslin.

Unlike Swift’s songs about her exes, Breslin’s track didn’t care for subtlety. Swift focuses on her emotions during and after each boyfriend breakup, but Breslin chose to nitpick every little thing about her ex-boyfriend in the angst-ridden song. She didn’t name the ex-boyfriend, but as 5SOS fans insist it’s clearly about Clifford.

According to Breslin’s critics, the song contradicts the message that she is trying to send. She insults the guy’s looks (“I just wanted you to know all you r band mates are hotter than you”) and accuses him of “sounding like a girl” when he drunk calls her.

The music video wasn’t any better as well, the critics said. In the video, Breslin’s friends torture the ex-boyfriend, forcing him to eat a whole egg and cutting off his hair. Instead of a feministic approach to a breakup, the song appeared to be a childish and futile attempt at being clever.

There are clues on the song that apparently strongly suggest that she was talking about Clifford, whom she dated in 2013. The most obvious ones are the references to the boy being in a band, and his scar above his eyes, of which Clifford took a picture on Twitter.

Breslin’s attempt at an empowering breakup song was met with ridicule, not only from the 5SOS fans, but also from casual observers. The hashtag #AbigailYouTried has trended on Twitter, a play on a line from her song.

That awkward moment when the title of your song describes yourself more than the person it's written about #AbigailYouTried

if you're not obsessed with him why did you write a whole song bashing his appearance lmao try again #AbigailYouTried — emma (@lashtonnx) November 27, 2014

Clifford hasn’t responded to the diss, but on the day of the song’s release, he posted a couple of tweets, which his fans believe that were about “You Suck.”

Breslin, who famously starred in the “Little Miss Sunshine” and a number of other hit films as a child, was spotted going with Clifford at the Teen Choice Awards in August 2013. They were also seen dining together at a restaurant after the ceremony. It’s unknown how long have they dated, if they even did, but his fans claim that they only went out for one date.
