Xiaomi is rumoured to be working on a successor tablet for the Xiaomi Mi Pad 7.9 that was released last year in March. Fresh photos of the Xiaomi Mi Pad 2 have surfaced that reveals that the appearance of the device will be quite similar to the Xiaomi Mi Note and the Xiaomi Mi Note Pro phablets that were released earlier this year.

STJS Gadgets has published the leaked photos of Xiaomi Mi Pad 2. It states that the unreleased tablet will come out with an improved design. The Mi Pad 2 sports an impressive metal frame running along its edges and the backside of the device is flanked with toughened glass.

The Mi logo is placed on the upper left side of the device and location of the camera and sensors on the device is quite similar to Xiaomi Mi Note. Rumours have it that the device will bring support for voice calling, a feature that is absent on Xiaomi Mi Pad 7.9

The Xiaomi Mi Pad 2 is expected to feature the Android 5.0.x Lollipop OS overlaid with MIUI 6 interface. GSM Arena says that the device will also bring support for 3G/LTE connectivity.

As of this writing, Xiaomi has not confirmed on the successor model for last year’s Mi Pad 7.9. Also, the leaked photos are not accompanied with any information on the specs of the device.

The Xiaomi Mi Pad 7.9 has received good reception from the critics and its users. The International Business Times report says it’s a true value for money tablet. The device comes with a thin body that measures 8.5 mm and houses a 7.9-inch IPS LCD display with support for 1536 x 2048 pixels.

The device is powered by Nvidia Tegra K1 chipset that features a quad-ciore Cortex A-15 processor gunning at 2.2 GHz speed. It is supported by 2 GB of RAM. The tablet is available in two storage options, namely 16 GB and 64 GB.

The tablet does not support cellular connectivity. Hence, web connectivity is only available through Wi-Fi. There is an 8 MP camera at the rear that supports full HD recording and a 5 MP camera at the front. The Xiaomi Mi Pad 7.9 is packed with a huge 6700 mAh battery.
