The Xiaomi Mi 5 has officially been announced, and its release date, price, specifications and features revealed along with it.

Hugo Barra, VP of Xiaomi, announced there would be three variants of the Xiaomi Mi 5 – Stand, High and Ceramic Exclusive. All three models sport the same design but come with slight variations in specs.

Design and Display

The Xiaomi Mi 5 that sports a 3D glass curved rear panel appears similar to the Xiaomi Mi Note. It measures 69.2 x 144.5 x 7.25 mm and weighs only 129 grams.

The Xiaomi Mi 5 features a 5.15-inch IPS display that supports full HD resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels. It is equipped with ultra-bright 16-LED backlight technology. The Sunlight Display technology automatically adjusts the colours of the screen when the device is taken outdoors.

Storage Variants, Chipset and RAM

The Xiaomi Mi 5 Standard version features 3 GB of RAM and comes with 32 GB of storage. The High variant features 3 GB of Ram and 64 GB of storage. The Ceramic Exclusive edition is packed with 4 GB of RAM and 128 GB of UFS 2.0 storage. All three variants are powered by Snapdragon 820 chipset.

The Xiaomi Mi 5 scored 142,084 on AnTuTu, Phone Arena reported. This is compared to the LG G5 powered by the same chipset, which scored 133,054 on the benchmarking site, and the Exynos 8890 flavored Galaxy S7, which scored 116,668.

Camera, Connectivity and Battery

The Mi 5 features a 16 MP rear camera that is equipped with Sony IMX 298 f/2.0 aperture lens, 4-axis OIS, 4K video recording and phase detection auto focus. The front-facing camera is 4 MP.

The smartphone also offers connectivity options like 4G+, which can deliver download speeds of up to 600 Mbps through Cat. 12 LTE, 3G, NFC, and Wi-Fi. It is packed with a 3,000 mAh battery.

Release Date and Price

The Xiaomi Mi 5 release date is March 1. The company has already started taking preorders in China. The Standard version is priced at 1999 Yuan (US$305; AU$426). The High variant costs 2299 Yuan (US$351; AU$490). The Ceramic Exclusive model costs 2699 (US$413; U$575). As of this writing, there is no confirmation on when the Mi 5 will be made available in the US, Australia and Europe.
