Actress Neve Campbell will not be returning to the “Scream” movie franchise following a dispute over the salary she was offered for her notable role as Sidney Prescott.

On Monday, Campbell released a statement announcing she would not appear in “Scream 6” and explained that her decision to exit was based on a dispute over her salary.

“Sadly, I won’t be making the next ‘Scream film,’” Campbell said in a statement. “As a woman, I have had to work extremely hard in my career to establish my value, especially when it comes to ‘Scream.’ I felt the offer that was presented to me did not equate to the value I have brought to the franchise. It’s been a very difficult decision to move on.”

Campbell went on to thank her fans and reflect on her time starring in the franchise. “To all my ‘Scream’ fans, I love you. You’ve always been so incredibly supportive to me. I’m forever grateful to you and to what this franchise has given me over the past 25 years,” she said.

Campbell’s character appeared in the latest “Scream” film alongside Courteney Cox and David Arquette, who reprised their roles as Gale Weathers and Dewey Riley, respectively.

The horror movie went on to gross $140 million worldwide. The “Scream” franchise has grossed $744 million globally.

Campbell currently stars in the Netflix series “The Lincoln Lawyer” and is expected to appear in Peacock’s upcoming show “Twisted Metal,” based on the video game franchise of the same name.

“Scream 6” is expected to be released March 31, 2023, and will see the return of Hayden Panettiere as Kirby Reed, who appeared in “Scream 4.”

After starring in the 2022 “Scream” film, Jenna Ortega, Melissa Barrera, Mason Gooding, and Jasmin Savoy Brown are all expected to reprise their roles in the upcoming film.

“Scream 6” is expected to follow the four survivors of the Ghostface murders in Woodsboro as they attempt to start a new chapter.
