While Virgin Galactic, owned by Sir Richard Branson, currently caters to a small but rich markets made up of billionaires who want to travel to space, the aviation firm said over the weekend that it wants to grow its market by coming up with moon cruises.

Virgin Galactic has for its first client the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) for space science which would provide the air carrier an opportunity to launch satellites into orbit similar to how an aircraft is launched.

For its space cruises, Techcrunch suggested that Virgin adopt the concept of the Concorde, the jet known for its high speed and high altitude travel, to take advantage of lower air resistance that would permit aircraft to leave the Earth's atmosphere with a more energy efficient, environment friendly and faster travel.

The Web site also proposed that Virgin construct cruise ship that would also run as orbital hotels for future voyages to the moon and back. Although it is a completely impossible scenario for the moment, Virgin Galactic is working on such an idea as a long-term goal.
