It is a close competition between Justin Bieber and Lady Gaga when it comes to the number of followers on their social networking site "Twitter" but the young Canadian singer officially defeated Mother Monster on Tuesday. Justin Bieber currently has over 33,361,000 followers which placed him at the top spot of most followed celebrity on Twitter while Lady Gaga only has more than 33,345,000 Little Monsters.

Perhaps Justin Bieber's recent single status after breaking up with girlfriend Selena Gomez caused the sudden surge of followers on his Twitter account @justinbieber. The "Beliebers" even rejoiced the triumph of the 18-year-old superstar using the hashtag #33MillionBeliebers.

Lady Gaga may have been dethroned on Twitter but she still reigns on another social networking site, Facebook, where the 26-year-old quirky singer has approximately 55 million followers. Justin Bieber only has 50 million Facebook supporters.

Other famous celebrities with the most Twitter followers are Katy Perry, Rihanna, Britney Spears, Taylor Swift and Kim Kardashian. Even United States President Barack Obama gathered more than 26 million followers on his Twitter account @BarackObama.

Lady Gaga's fans, whom she fondly calls her "Little Monsters" and Justin Bieber's "Beliebers" are aware that both music artists constantly uses their Twitter account to express opinions, gratitude to fans or give bits and pieces of information about their upcoming album or concert. The Little Monsters have not reacted yet about the outcome of the Twitter follower guard.
