Five people were sent to hospital, four taken into police custody after an incident of gunfire at a townhouse near Jane Street and Finch Avenue in Toronto. The violence took place in the front yard of a brick townhouse owned by Toronto Community Housing on Thursday evening.

When Toronto police arrive at the crime scene right after the gunfire broke out, it found injured people everywhere around the property. Paramedics found one of the male victims for showing no signs of heartbeat or breathing. The other four victims are expected to survive, but two suffered critical injuries. Meanwhile, police is yet to release the identity of the victims, but when media spoke to the witnesses on Thursday night, one of the victims, a woman, was shot through the leg.

However, police arrested four suspects within two hours of the shooting, one of whom were “shot in an interaction with police,” revealed in an official statement. “It is reported that person has non-life-threatening injuries,” added the statement.

Sergeant Steve Hicks said there were several children at the time of the incident, which took place near a high school and a community centre. Hicks was reportedly conducting a youth program at the centre when he heard the gunshots and rushed to the scene.

15-year-old Brianna Mombourquette said she came out with her parents to check on what happened after her sister heard two gunshots. "I was scared and still am," she added.
