Four years after her first full movie appearance, Taylor Swift is set to star in the film adaptation of the novel, "The Giver."

The 23-year singer will portray the role of Rosemary, the daughter of "The Giver," played by Jeff Bridges, who fails her training to be the Receiver of Memories and asked to be released from the job. The Giver helps a young boy be selected to be the new Receiver of Memories.

Swift was in South Africa in October for filming the movie, where she is caught sporting with brunette hair during the day. That evening, while having dinner with costars Alexander Skarsgård and Katie Holmes, she was back to her straight, dirty blonde hair, forming a conclusion that she was wearing a brunette wig for the movie.

A month prior to that, The Weinstein Company and Walden Media has announced that the Red singer joins Holmes, Skarsgård, Bridges, Meryll Streep and Australian Actor Brenton Thwaites in the cast of the film adaptation of Lois Lowry's dystopian young adult novel.

In an interview with ABC News Radio, Swift said she was asked for the role a week after a show in Los Angeles, where the reps from the movie were in her audience.

"I think my shows tend to be very emotional and moody and they saw something they needed in that role. So, I'm very honored and lucky to get to be a part of it, and we'll see how it goes," Swift said.

In another interview with Access Hollywood, Swift gushed about her experience with working with veteran actors, Bridges, Holmes and Streep, saying, "I still can't believe I shot in South Africa and shot all my scenes with Jeff Bridges. It was unreal."

Swift further described her latest acting stint as "educational," despite "really long hours" on set.

"It's crazy how educational just getting into a situation and doing it [is].You learn so much more, because I have taken acting classes and read as much as I possibly can on it and done theater before all this started, [but] you learn more by actually doing it than you could ever learn in preparation."

Prior to her role in The Giver, Swift as also appeared in the 2010 romantic comedy Valentine's Day, alongside Taylor Lautner whom she dated for some time back then. She has also appeared in CSI and New Girl and has lent her voice in the animated film The Lorax.

The Giver will be in theaters Aug. 15, 2014.
