The Sony Xperia Z2 has finally landed in the U.S., 3 months after it became available in other markets worldwide. However, if that is good news for Sony fans, the price at $700 could be a damper. That's after a $50 discount that Sony has been generous enough to offer to buyers of the device. This applies to the unlocked version of the Sony flagship device which, right now, can only be sourced from the Sony online store.

With no carrier support in place, chances are the price will remain the same, though there have been unconfirmed reports of Verizon launching the Z2 on its bands. Even that is not likely to be a possibility before mid-August, if at all, reports GSM Arena. Further, it's the D6503 variant of the Z2 that Sony has launched in the U.S., which makes the smartphone compliant with only AT&T and T-Mobile bands, as per Ubergizmo.

However, eager fans of the Xperia Z2 still have another hurdle thrown at them: the device is currently listed as backordered and there is no mention of when the device will start shipping, according to Androidandme.

Coming to its specs, the Xperia Z2 comes with a 5.2-inch TRILUMINOS display lit up by 1,920 x 1,080 pixels. It's powered by a quad-core Snapdragon 800 chip rated at 2.3 GHZz with an Adreno 330 GPU taking care of graphics files. The Z2 also comes with a 3 GB RAM, all of which contributes to its silky smooth operations. Internal storage stands at 16 GB though that can be expanded to 128 GB via microSD cards.

As for its camera, while Sony has continued with the same 20.7-MP camera at the rear from its predecessor, there have been a few enhancements for the smartphone's photographic abilities. These include its ability to shoot 4K videos along with the unique digital noise-cancelling feature. There also is the Timeshift feature that is part of the Z2 camera that allows it to shoot in slow motion.

However, even with these enhancements in place, the Z2 failed to impress with its camera among flagship smartphone of 2014, reports GSM Arena.
