When Sony announced its presence at the MWC 2017 a few weeks back, inviting people to witness its latest innovations on Feb. 27, it generated a lot of buzz. Sony has not revealed details of the event though leaks and unconfirmed reports suggest that the company will be announcing multiple Xperia smartphones, from low-end to high-end models. Certain leaked photos, originating in China, have shown at least three Xperia models. One of the handsets has a front-facing camera with LED flash and 4GB RAM.

According to PhoneArena, Sony may launch two 5.5-inch Xperia smartphones in 2017. The one, expected to succeed the Sony Xperia Z5 Premium handset could come with a 4K display with screen resolution of 2160 x 3840 pixels. Another handset, as seen in the leaked images shared on the article, seems to be having a Quad HD display with a screen resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels. The leaked images by Weibo come with no extra details. It is difficult to gauge the authenticity of the leaks even though the photos appear to be real.

According to GSMArena, the leaked images, first picked up by Techstatic, also show a possible successor to the Sony Xperia XZ smartphone. A few days ago, few photos of the alleged Xperia XA2 were also leaked. In one of the images, showing a total of four handsets, the one in the bottom right corner could be the Xperia XZ2. The new Xperia XZ flagship is expected to be bigger than its predecessor. As already stated, the mysterious leak does not provide specs, apart from a 4GB RAM, which is a step up from Sony Xperia XZ’s 3GB RAM.

The fingerprint scanner is still seen integrated into the side-mounted power button, which means it has not been replaced, as pointed out by earlier reports. Android Headlines believes that the leaked image that shows a smartphone with the display on is the Sony Xperia XA2. The name of the smartphone is not yet fixed and can also be named next-generation Sony Xperia XA or simply Sony Xperia XA 2017. The smartphone is expected to be launched at the MWC 2017 and may hit stores by the end of February itself or March.

The Sony Xperia XA 2017 is expected to come with a price tag of ¥2,200 (AU$420 approx), writes Tech Times. Xperia XA2 may come with a 64GB internal memory, a MediaTek Helio P20 64-bit octa-core processor and Sony’s customised UI. A 23MP primary camera and 16MP secondary camera are also expected.
