Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 Vs Samsung Galaxy Tab S

Samsung Electronics just announced the Galaxy Tab S2, the second generation of its original Galaxy Tab S. The Galaxy Tab S2 will be available to buy from August. The question that might be floating in the users' mind is what does the Tab S2 offers over and above Galaxy Tab S. A detailed comparison of specs between these two would surely clear many doubts.
Tab S is longer but Tab S2 is slimmer and lighter
Both the tablets come in two variants. But the sizes offered vary. Tab S comes in 8.4-inch and 10.5-inch options whereas Tab S2 will be available in 8-inch and 9.7-inch models. Samsung claims that the Tab S2 which is 5.6mm thin is the slimmest tablet in the market. Tab S is thicker at 6.6mm. The original smaller Tab S measures 125.6 x 212.8mm and the larger model measures 177.3 x 247.3 as compared to 134.8 x 198.6mm for the smaller model and 169 x 237.3mm for the larger Galaxy Tab S2. When it comes to weight:
- Tab S2 8-inch weighs 265g and 9.7-inch weighs 389g
- Tab S 8.4-inch weighs 294g and 10.5-inch weighs 465g
Tab S has more color options
The Samsung Galaxy Tab S is available in slightly more exciting options - Dazzling White and Titanium Bronze with a textured rear. Tab S2 will be available in a smooth rear with standard White and Black options.
Galaxy Tab S has a sharper display
Both models of the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 will come with a Super AMOLED display with a 2048 x 1536 pixel resolution whereas Tab S models feature a 2560 x 1600 resolution. The original Tab S models offer 359ppi and 287ppi respectively as compared to the 8-inch Tab S2 which will offer a pixel density of 320ppi and 9.7-inch model a slightly lower at 264ppi. Thus, the image detail will be sharper on Tab S. But the changed aspect ratio of 4:3 in Tab S2, matching it with iPad, will change the game. The display will be wider in portrait and will be more convenient for natural reading like ebooks.
No flash in Galaxy Tab S2
If the users plan to take some low light shots the original Tab S will be more useful. Camera is not that significant in a tablet though. The Galaxy Tab S2 features an 8-megapixel auto-focus rear camera and a 2.1-megapixel front snapper on both models. The original models also come with the same camera specs but with a LED flash, reports Pocket Lint.
Galaxy Tab S2 has more storage
The Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 is supported by 3GB of RAM and there are two storage options of 32GB and 64GB with microSD support for storage expansion up to 128GB. The internal memory offered in the original Galaxy Tab S models is less at 16GB but they also offer microSD support up to 128GB. People for whom storage is essential can opt for Tab S2.
Galaxy Tab S has more battery capacity
Battery capacity has lessened for the Galaxy Tab S2 as compared to the original model. The 8-inch of Tab S2 will have a 4000mAh capacity and the 9.7-inch model will have a 5870mAh capacity. On the other hand, the Galaxy Tab S 8.4-inch model houses a 4900mAh battery, while the 10.5-inch has 7900mAh capacity. So if the users prefer a better battery then Tab S will be the desired option.
Galaxy Tab S2 will come preloaded with Microsoft Office
This feature can prove to be beneficial for users who intend to work on the move. Along with Microsoft Office solutions, Tab S2 will also sport two years of free OneDrive cloud storage .
Both the variants of Tab S2 will be run on the latest version of Android 5.0 Lollipop like the original Tab S models. Taken as a whole, it seems like the users preference will be the key factor – a better battery or sharper display or more storage or a slimmer tablet.
