As April 11, the day the Samsung Galaxy S5 hits the shelves, approaches, consumers begin to compare the next generation Samsung flagship smartphone with other Android flagships in the market today. Among the possible competitors of the Samsung Galaxy S5 are the Google Nexus 5 and the LG G2.

Resistant Design

Although the Google Nexus 5 sports a high quality design in white, black or red matte plastic, it does not offer the perks that the Samsung Galaxy S5 boasts. The Samsung Galaxy S5 is clearly an improved version of the Samsung Galaxy S4's polycarbonate design. It features a perforated back design which feels more premium than its predecessor.

The Samsung Galaxy S5 also boasts something that the Google Nexus 5 does not have, an IP67 certification, which basically means that it is water-resistant and dust-proof.

On the other hand, the LG G2 attempted something different with its design by providing a button layout at the back of the device and, convenient or not, it offers a clean look to its front along with its ultra-thin bezels.

Camera

The camera of the Google Nexus 5 is not its best feature despite the Optical Image Stabilisation. Although the 8-MP camera of Nexus 5 is good, it is not as great as the other two. The camera of the Samsung Galaxy S5 will trump the Nexus 5 and the LG G2 with its 16-MP camera, Optical Image Stabilisation, ISOCELL technology and extremely fast auto-focus. In contrast, the LG G2 offers 13-MP camera also with Optical Image Stabilisation, not to mention the sapphire glass cover.

Storage

The Google Nexus 5 and the LG G2 do not have a microSD slot for memory expansion unlike the Samsung Galaxy S5, which means that Nexus 5 and LG G2 users are stuck with either 16 or 32GB internal memory storage space. The Samsung Galaxy S5 features a microSD card slot which is expandable up to 128 GB; hence, it is recommended for users who wish to have more memory space.

Fitness Features

Samsung introduced a myriad of health-related features with its next flagship smartphone. The Galaxy S5 includes a new S Health App and a heart rate monitor placed next to the camera, not to mention that it can also work with the Galaxy Gear Fit.

On the other hand, the Google Nexus 5 and the LG G2 users can use their cameras along with an app to measure heart rate. Although these devices can also be used with some fitness bands, the experience does not compare to what the Samsung Galaxy S5 offers.
