The Samsung Galaxy S5 is not quite far away from its launch date, as such rumours about its specs and features abound all over the Internet. A new rumour claims that Samsung will cut down costs with its forthcoming flagships in 2014.

Basically, a report from ET News hinted that the Korean tech giant will settle for PLS LCD panel for the Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy S5 instead of having the AMOLED panel that is seen on all Samsung flagship devices since 2010. It was further said in the report that Samsung's decision might be based on fact that this move might cut production costs by 20 percent.

In the past, Samsung has already launched a couple of products sporting the PLS LCD screens like the Galaxy Note 10.1 and the Nexus 10 but it has never utilised the technology in its smartphones before.

The LCD screens in smartphones would provide users images with natural colours and less battery drain when browsing the Internet and performing tasks according to SamMobile. On the other hand, the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 offers the same capabilities with the LCD displays while keeping its OLED benefits like true blacks.

Moving to LCD screens can impact the sales of the forthcoming Galaxy devices in the future because AMOLED is undoubtedly one of its main selling points as of the moment. Although at this point, there is still a chance that the rumour will prove false later on particularly that Samsung already confirmed that it is able to build Super AMOLED panels than can deliver up to 2k resolution.

Conversely, it's not the first time that rumours like this emerge, as such the Korean tech giant might be cooking something in its labs right now.

Meanwhile, Samsung is crafting AMOLED based tablets in the future with the company streamlining the manufacturing itself. Given that, Samsung might focus on tablets more than in its smartphones in 2014. But then again, we might take these rumours with a grain of salt as of the moment as stay tuned about the latest news about the Galaxy S5 and Galaxy Note 4.
