Snapdragon 820 and Adreno 530 are out in the open and will be released by the first half of 2016. Five high-powered smartphones have been reported to feature the next generation Qualcomm chipsets.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 and Adreno 530 GPU in devices first half of 2016

American semiconductor company Qualcomm announced the next generation Snapdragon 820 and Adreno 530 processors designed for ultimate graphics and mobile camera experience. Qualcomm introduced via press release that Snapdragon 820 will debut with the new 14-bit Qualcomm Spectra image signal processing of ISP unit to support devices with superior DSLR-quality photography and enhanced computer vision.

“We’re significantly enhancing the visual processing capabilities of Snapdragon to support next-generation user experiences related to computational photography, computer vision, virtual reality and photo-realistic graphics on mobile devices, all while maximizing battery life,” stated by Qualcomm Vice President for Product Management Tim Leland.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 is integrated to the Adreno 530 graphics processing unit or GPU providing superior experience compared to Adreno 4xx series. Adreno 530 is also compatible with Snapdragon 620 and 618 processors and features upgrades such as up to 40 per cent lower power consumption and 40 per cent faster performance, compatible with OpenGL ES 3.1 and AEP, support for 64-bit processors, support for ultra-high definition displays and support for longer battery life and superior pixel quality.

Five upcoming devices expected to feature Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 and Adreno 530

There are at least five high-powered smartphones expected to sport the latest Snapdragon 820 processor along with the Adreno 530 graphics processing unit according to Phone Arena. These devices are also rumoured to be announced from September to November 2015.

  1. LG G4 Pro – Upcoming successor to the G series with 5.8 inches 1440 x 2560 QHD display screen, 4 GB of RAM, up to 64 GB internal storage, 8 MP front camera and 27 MP rear camera shooter. It is expected to be announced some time on October.
  2. Xiaomi Mi5 and Mi5 Plus – Reports expected that Xiaomi will announce both devices on November which features Snapdragon 820. Mi5 sports 5.2 inches of 2.5D glass display with QHD resolution, 3 GB RAM with 16 GB internal storage for one variant and 4 GB w with 64 GB internal storage on the other, 16 MP rear camera and 3000 mAh battery. Mi5 Plus boasts 6.0 inch of QHD display with 4 GB RAM and 20 MP rear camera.
  3. Mstar S700 Pro – New player Mstar is expected to release the S700 Pro flagship by October with 5.5 inches of QHD 2.5D glass display, 4 GB RAM and 32 GB expandable storage, 21 MP rear camera, 11 MP front camera and 3500 mAh battery.
  4. HTC Aero – HTC could be brewing a new flagship smartphone to debut Snapdragon 820 and rumours are encircling on “Aero.” However, there are no details yet about its other specifications.
  5. Sony Xperia Z5 – Several reports have claimed that Xperia Z5 will feature Snapdragon 820 along with 21 MP Sony Exmor RS rear camera CMOS sensor and 4500 mAh battery.
