The console soothsayers have spoken. It appears that Sony's PlayStation 4 might be on its way to winning this generation's console war against Microsoft's Xbox One. A market analysis firm Strategy Analytics has revealed that PS4 will continue its streak of besting the Xbox One in terms of sales well into the future. The firm has pegged Sony as the undisputed winner through the first five years of the current breed of videogame consoles.

Strategy Analytics predicts that by 2019, the PS4 will consistently outsell the Xbox One by a staggering 40 percent according to VG247. The analyst believes that the PS4 will replicate the sales success of the PS2, which was by far the company's most successful hardware offering. This means, the PS4 has been pegged to push 80 million units by 2019. In contrast, the Xbox One has been predicted to sell a relatively modest 57 million units around the same time frame according to Games Industry Biz.

These predictions seem on the money when you consider the real sales data available at the moment. Only last month Sony had made a statement announcing that the PS4 was the best-selling console in the world for all of 2014. Within just fourteen months since its launch, the console has sold 18.5 million units. This makes it the fastest-selling console amongst all the PlayStation offerings, which includes the PS2.

The only exception to PS4's winning sales streak came in the the months of November and Dec 2014, where the Xbox One outsold it in the U.S. markets. That was largely due to a $50 price cut on the Xbox One in the U.S. during the holiday season. Elsewhere in the world, where the consoles were price at par with each other, the PS4 still outsold the Xbox One by a million units.
