Oscar-nominated actress Rinko Kikichu talks about her wish to reprise her role as Mako in Guillermo del Toro’s hit movie “Pacific Rim 2” with co-star Charlie Hunnam. With the help of her translator, the star revealed that she is keen to reunite with the Mexican director but there is no word yet on whether she is needed on the second instalment of the film.

When asked about Raleigh Becket, played by “Sons of Anarchy” star and Mako Mori’s relationship the actress admitted that “Pacific Rim” does not follow the “cookie cutter tradition of blockbuster.” The actress previously admitted during the first movie presscon that she would like to see Mako and Raleigh’s relationship intensify.

“Pacific Rim” did not follow the cookie cutter tradition of blockbusters where you have girl meets boy, they fall in love and get together and live happily ever after,” Kickuchi exclusively told Comingsoon.net. “So I think one of the themes that runs through “Pacific Rim” is how that relationship becomes a good strong relationship.”

Not your everyday love story, the actress revealed that the movie is beyond the “standard boy/girl relationship.” The “Crimson Peak” director previously hinted that “Pacific Rim 2” will focus more of the Kaiju world and will have Burn Gorman and Charlie Day as the two main characters. Del Toro did not comment on the likelihood of Charlie Hunnam and Rinko Kikuchi to reprise their roles.

Scheduled to hit theatres on April 7, 2017, “Pacific Rim 2” is set to begin filming in November/December 2015 with Zak Penn currently working with the script of the sequel with no assurance that some of the fan’s favourite actors will be there. Del Toro is reportedly planning for a trilogy where all his characters are going meet up in the movie’s third instalment.

Best known for her role as a deaf-mute teenage girl in Alejandro Gonzalez Iñárritu’s film “Babel,” Kikuchi starred in David Zellner’s “Kumiko, the Treasure Hunter.” Set to be released on March 18, the movie follows a frustrated office lady who become obsessed with mysterious VHS tape of a popular film and got fixated on a scene where a stolen cash was buried in a frozen landscape of North Dakota.
