Nokia might well be the newest company to bite the selfie bait given rumors of it working on a smartphone with greater emphasis on the front facing cam. The device in question is expected to be the sequel to the Lumia 720 and is codenamed Superman. Early rumors point out to the device coming with just decent specs to justify its positioning as a mid-range device. There will of course be a better camera in the form of a 5 megapixel unit up front to live up to its branding as a selfie themed smartphone.

The rest of the specifications that the Lumia 720 is expected to come with include a quad core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 chip that will be assisted by an Adreno 305 GPU to take care of graphics files. Further, the display is expected to be stretched to 5 inch this time, up from the 4.3 inch display that serves in the current Lumia 720 though NokiaPowerUser mentions there will be two Lumia 720 variants this time.

According to NPU, there will be another Lumia 720 variant, one that will come with a 4.7 inch display. However, both the versions will sport 720p resolution display.

There will likewise be a better rear facing camera as well, with Pocket-Lint claiming it to be an 8-megapixel Carl Zeiss camera this time that will serve on the smaller 4.7 inch Lumia 720 variant. The current Lumia 720 makes do with a 6.1 megapixel camera at the rear and a 1.3 megapixel shooter at the front. The upcoming Lumia 720 is also expected to sport similar exterior styling as the current gen version, complete with the wide color choice that has been the hallmark of Nokia handsets so far, further mentions Pocket-Lint.

NPU though is claiming that the bigger 5 inch variant might sport an even better rear facing camera, one with a 13 megapixel sensor. Some sources also mention the 5 inch variant to be ultimately marketed as the mini Lumia 930, claims NPU.

Worth mention here, Sony too has launched a selfie smartphone dubbed Xperia C3 which too boasts of a 5 megapixel camera at the front but also includes a LED flash as well.
