A UK study released this week found the average penis size, if erect, at about 5.2 inches. Ali Maizinari, a Nigerian who got married last week, belongs to the 2.6 percent whose genital size is above average.

His bride, Aisha Dannupawa, filed for divorce a week after their wedding because she couldn’t handle his very well endowed manhood, reports the New York Post.

Part of the Nigerian marriage tradition is for the future bride to move into her future husband’s parent’s home before the wedding where they had sex. Dannupawa recalls, “When he came, we had sex but the experience was a nightmare. Instead of enjoying sex, it turned out to be something else because his penis was too big,” quotes the Tribune in Nigeria.

Dannupawa, who was no longer a virgin since it is her second marriage following her first failed marriage, shared with her mother the pain she experienced. Her mother told Dannupawa to endure the pain, but in time she would be able to cope with it, and she gave her some medicine.

On their second try, the same thing happened, the bride found her husband’s penis too much to bear. Dannupawa reached the conclusion that not even taking the drugs given by her mother would alleviate the pain of having sex with her husband.

Maizinari, who is aware that he is “gifted,” did not object to his bride’s request for divorce under the Sharia Law. But he sought the return of the dowry he gave and money he spent while courting Dannupawa.

In a discussion on the same topic in Sharecare.com, a health forum, Dr Madeleine Castellanos, said that when it comes to penises, bigger isn’t always better. She said a large male genital looks impressive on porn films, but it’s a different story in reality.

She confirmed the UK study that the average male penis is 5 to 6 inches in length and 5 inches in girth when aroused, while the average vagina is about 3 inches deep which could expand to 4 inches deep when aroused.

Castellanos explained that despite the ability of the vagina to stretched such as childbirth, a penis that is bigger than average could cause discomfort to the woman during vaginal and anal sex and trigger gag reflex during oral sex.

She added, “Long penises may hit your cervix during thrusting which can be painful. And a penis with extra girth may tear delicate vagina tissues if you don’t have enough lubricant and can trigger urinary tract infections if it rubs and irritates your urethra.”
