It’s the Easter special episode on this week’s “Jane The Virgin.” Just like the time of Jesus Christ’s resurrection, there are non-believers like Doubting Thomas. In chapter 18, Jane starts to doubt Rafael and their relationship.

After having been blown off several times due to pressing work issues, Jane is starting to feel like Rafael isn’t going to be able to handle having a baby. She starts to think that he might not be ready or willing to put in what’s needed to make things work between them once the baby arrives and starts requiring more attention.

Meanwhile, Xiomara and Rogelio’s relationship has also hit a speed bump after Rogelio said that he is unable to tell Xiomara that he loves her because of the animosity between her and his mother. He invites his mother to come visit their new home in an attempt to patch things up between the two women.

Lilliana de la Vega arrives and is delighted to meet her granddaughter Jane for the first time. Unfortunately, she isn’t pleased to see Xiomara. After butting heads a few times, Xiomara learns that Liliana hates her for not telling Rogelio about Jane. The only problem is she did tell him about the pregnancy but he chose to keep it from his mother.

Rogelio eventually admits the real situation to Liliana and this sorts things out between Xiomara and his mother. However, Liliana still doesn’t think Xo and Rogelio should be together. Rogelio decides that he’s had enough and asks his mother to leave and says that no one disrespects the woman he loves.

Jane meets up with her new friend Andi who encourages her and tells her that her doubts about Rafael are probably being caused simply by her pregnancy hormones. Jane still doesn’t know that Andi is Michael’s ex-girlfriend and that she has been stalking both of them to look for an opportunity to get back together with Michael.

When Jane chances upon Michael at the lobby of the Marbella, she figures out that Michael is going out on a date and that the same Andi that she knows from her writer’s workshop is actually Michael’s ex. She attempts to tell him about how she’s been stalking them but decides against it when she sees that he’s happy.

Meanwhile, Jane causes Rafael more trouble when she has a nasty moment with City Commissioner Alexis Falco at the restaurant. She is the only woman who can help Rafael get his liquor license back but Jane messed things up when she fought back when the Commissioner was rude at the restaurant.

Rafael manages to get an Easter lunch meeting with the Falcos and asks Jane to come to sort out the problem. Things didn’t start out well but when Jane overhears Alexis and her husband arguing about his mistress, the Commissioner is forced to ask Jane to keep quiet in exchange of a favour for Rafael. Jane tells her that she won’t tell anyone anyway and the two of them exchange apologies.

With one issue settled, Rafael is faced with another one. After his attempt to find his mother, he manages to find an email address. When he sends her an email, she doesn’t respond but she shows up at the Marbella. When the two of them talk, Rafael finds out that their mother accepted US$10 million to disappear and stay away from her kids. She says that she was unhappy in their marriage and cheated on Emilio. She was asked to leave when he found out. Rafael is disgusted to learn that his mother left him and his sister in exchange of a bribe.

Rafael takes a moment to reflect on his parents and his current situation. He becomes anxious about the baby and his ability to become a good father. He decides to break up with Jane saying that perhaps trying to become a good father as well as a good boyfriend is too much for him to handle.

Jane isn’t the only one who got her heart broken in this episode. Alba has been eyeing Edward from her physical therapy sessions for months. Unfortunately, just when she finds the courage to ask him out, she finds out that he’s actually a priest. What’s even more interesting is that he accepted her invitation.

Petra’s heart may not be broken but she is in a lot of trouble. Her ex-lover Roman Zazo is alive and has been living in the hotel under the guise of his twin brother Aaron. Petra discovers the truth and before the police can do anything about it, she gets kidnapped by Aaron/Roman. What happens to her and how Jane will handle the break-up will be revealed when “Jane The Virgin” returns next Monday at 9 pm on The CW.
