The cast of the upcoming 'Fifty Shades of Grey' movie gets a new addition, and her name is Eloise Mumford.

The former Broadway stage actress is tapped for the role of Anastasia Steele's best friend and roommate Katharine "Kate" Kavanaugh in the film adaptation of E.L. James's novel of the same title.

Variety magazine reports that Mumford's role was the last character to be cast by Universal Pictures and Focus Features after encountering problems with the casting of the lead role of Christian Grey. After the latter role was given to Charlie Hunnam, casting for the role of Kate began by testing girls alongside Dakota Johnson, who will play Anastasia.

But after Hunnam withdrew from the role one week before filming, the two companies moved their focus back to finding a new Christian Grey, leaving Kate's role vacant.

Jamie Dornan replaces Hunnam for Christian Grey's role, and soon other cast members were added, the last of which was Mumford. Rounding up the cast list are Jennifer Ehle as Anastasia's mother Carla, Luke Grimes as Christian's adoptive brother Elliot and Victor Rasul as Anastasia's male friend Jose. Sam Taylor-Johnson will direct the film produced by Michael De Luca and Dana Brunetti.

Mumford first started out her acting career in the Atlantic Theater Company before shifting to Broadway as Elisabeth Moss's understudy in 'Speed-The-Plow.'

She also starred in the Fox series 'Lone Star' and in the direct-to-video movie 'So Undercover' starring Miley Cyrus. Her recent appearance was in the ABC paranormal series 'The River' and in the indie military comedy 'Drones.'

Prior to her appearance in the film set for a February 2015 release, Mumford will appear in the movie 'Not Safe For Work.'

In the novel, Kate works for the Washington State University newspaper who is initially set to interview businessman Christian Grey. She unfortunately got sick on the day of the interview and asks her friend Anastasia to do the interview instead. The said interview will be the start of the rather complicated relationship between Christian and Anastasia.

'Fifty Shades of Grey' is the first installment in the 'Fifty Shades' trilogy, which has sold more than 90 million copies worldwide, both in print and e-book formats. The same novel series has also been translated into 52 languages.
