Oscar winners Gwyneth Paltrow and Nicole Kidman battle it out in a "who wore it better?" situation.

The actresses were seen in the same one-shoulder Stella McCartney patterned dress barely a week from each other. This is clash of the titans if the titans were ever into stick straight hair, sometimes singing and musician husbands.

But first, a run through of these two's highest fashion honours. Paltrow started out every bit the ingénue when she made her first major film, "Seven," with then-boyfriend Brad Pitt. Since those days, her style has gone from favouring silky suits to terribly chic and minimalist. Paltrow is not one to pile on the bling, almost always opting for an understated and still very much all-American.

When she was still wed to her "Days of Thunder" co-star, Tom Cruise, Kidman could always be seen with her curly locks and slightly dramatic frocks. Since their separation, the actress has gone from one-note character to superstar, and her style reflects that. Kidman now prefers classic, sculptural dresses and killer shoes. Now on to the style war!

Paltrow, 39, wore a blue printed version of the dress for Coach's 70th anniversary party in Beijing. The dress was cut mid-thigh to show off her marvellous legs and partnered with black heels and matching black clutch; the "Glee" star needed only her straightened golden locks as a stand in to accessories. Kidman wore her red, floor length version to the BMI Country Music Awards in Nashville. She opted to wear green earrings and red shoes.

The winner? While it's too close to call as both dresses weren't particularly flattering, Paltrow wins this round. Her version of the look was fun and young while Kidman's clashed with her hair and dare we say it, made her look a tad dumpy. That being said, both of them can certainly do better.
