Samsung Electronics Co is expected to spend around $14 billion - more than Iceland's GDP - on advertising and marketing this year, but it doesn't always get value for money. The outlay buys the South Korean technology giant publicity in TV and cinema ads, on billboards, and at sports and arts events from the Sydney Opera House to New York's Radio City Music Hall. Samsung has announced the release of their next smarwatch before the IFA conference at Berlin on September 5.

The uniqueness of the Samsung Gear S include the inbuilt 3G modem that allows the wearer to receive messages, notifications and make calls without being paired with a smartphone. The device will include a Super AMOLED display with a 2-inch diagonal measurement and 360x480 resolution.

"Samsung is leading this exciting and rapidly developing wearable category through progressive innovation," said JK Shin, CEO and head of IT & mobile communication at Samsung Electronics. He went on to add that the Samsung Gear S will redefine Smartwatches and the culture of mobile communication and consumers will live a truly connected life anywhere and anytime.

The Gear S has the most impressive feature and will be fashionable. With the minute and hour hand display it seems more like a watch than a smartwatch that Samsung has brought out. It sits snugly around the wrist with its contour and will be very comfortable, unlike the regular flat surface that are uncomfortable and stick out. The strap can be changed according to the user's choice. The Gear S brings together a number of features of their previous versions of smartwatches. The Gear S is powered by Tizen like the Gear 2 and Gear Neo. Samsung is working with Google and Android Wear but by using Tizen the company is looking to be independent as possible. It also has built in Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity along with its cellular radio. The smartwatch will most probably need a SIM card to give the smartwatch data access via a cellular network provider as the company has not mentioned how the Wi-Fi connectivity will be achieved.

Softwares include the HERE navigation that has been provided by Nokia and Spritz speed reading. With all other features like the GPS, UV detection, accelerometer, compass, gyroscope, barometer and heart rate monitor.

Regarding the specifications of the Gear S, it has 4 GB of internal storage and a dual core 1.0 GHz processor with 512 MB ram.

The Gear S will be IP67 dust and water resistant and a small 300 mAh battery that will last for two days under normal usage conditions.

Along the release of the Gear S, Samsung will also launch its Gear Circle headset which has Bluetooth connectivity with vibration motor to provide silent notification and a microphone to chat and receive calls as well as voice commands

Though the price has not been made public the Gear S will be available in the beginning of October.
