The battle of digital assistants is well-known and age old. Google, Microsoft and Apple have recently been joined by Facebook with its own version of personal assistant called M.

The digital assistants or personalised apps are designed to make life easier to the users. These apps respond to verbal commands and come with their own sets of features.

Apple Siri

The recent iOS 9 update has made Siri more proactive than ever. It now tries to gauge the needs of the owner and come up with suitable suggestions. Its voice control features are better than Google Now. Siri integrates other apps like calendar more efficiently than any other digital assistant.

Want to find a phone number, send emails, get traffic alerts, launch apps or set a reminder? Siri is always there to help you out. Users can also continue with web searches and weather updates. It also scans the mailbox for probable names for an unknown incoming phone call, reports Forbes.

Siri is only available on iOS. The new generation of Apple TV accompanies a Siri Remote to ensure swift navigation through the interface.

Google Now

Google Now keeps an eye on your Gmail and Google calendar and keeps on reminding you about your day’s schedule. It is more like a real life personal assistant. It keeps a tab on the recently sent messages and mails to come up with contextual information when asked for it.

Moreover, it also offers personalised services like web queries, map searches, finding a proper restaurant for dinner, come up with movie suggestions and much more. It comes up with the right kind of information when required. If Google Now knows that the user has to catch a flight in the afternoon, it will display all information regarding the flight on the top of all apps.

Google Now is now also available on both Android and iOS. Android 6.0 Marshmallow has made Google Now available on mobile devices. Google just updated its language support to Now on Tap incorporating Spanish, French, German, Italian, Russian, and Korean along with existing languages, reports The Verge.

Microsoft Cortana

With Windows 10, Microsoft made Cortana available on both mobile and desktop versions. The personal assistant of Microsoft has borrowed the best features from its rivals. On desktops and laptops, to date, Cortana is stronger than Google Now. But the Windows 10 Mobile versions are yet to tried and tested.

Cortana can conduct web searches, map searches, provides weather forecasts with great ease. However, it lacks in integration of third-party apps. Microsoft released Cortana for both iOS and Android.

According to a report in NDTV Gadgets, all three apps have their own share of expertise. Google Now is the best personalised digital assistant; Siri has better voice controls and Cortana is a good amalgamation of both.
