Stana Katic is leaving 'Castle'

“Castle” Season 7 filming-and-production work is wrapping up soon. Stana Katic has been delivering updates and behind-the-scene photos, thanking everyone who’s been part of the series at the same time. These photos are making some fans wonder: Will there be a “Castle” Season 8?

Stana Katic’s behind-the-scene photos on Instagram feature mementos, babies, production staff and most recently – the script for “Castle” Season 7 finale. The photo reveals that series creator Andrew W. Marlowe and his wife Terri Edda Miller wrote the script.

Episode 20 director Paul Holahan is also directing the “Castle” Season 7 finale. (Episode 20 is the next new episode on ABC; it airs on April 20.) Marlowe, Miller and Holahan are the same creative leads behind Castle and Beckett’s wedding episode.

“Castle” Season 7 spoilers include the return of the fake Jenkins (Matt Letscher) in the next new episode. The nature of the season finale has also been revealed in recent reports. A cliffhanger is shaping up, show boss David Amann earlier told TV Guide.

“It seems Stana is thanking the staff lately… it gives me hint that it is over (sic),” comments Instagram user @cynthz_mipz. Some other comments express mixed “Castle” Season 8 optimism and pleas.

Katic’s script cover photo shows TBD is written where the episode title should be. For some of the Instagram users, it simply means “to be discussed,” or production has yet to finalise the “Castle” Season 7 finale title. For others, it is the fate of Season 8 – under discussion.

"If the character is complete, if there is nowhere else to go creatively, then I think it's better to stop when you're on top, because I admire the way that they did that with ‘The Wire,’ you know?" Stana Katic told TV Line in a November 2014 interview, which touched upon Katic’s contract.

There has been no definitive report yet on contract renewals involving Stana Katic and Nathan Fillion. Still, both TV Line and Zap2It predict that “Castle” Season 8 is a “safe bet.” In the past three years, ABC announced it was ordering a new season in the month of May.

“Castle” Season 7 last aired a new episode on March 30 on ABC. Stana Katic’s BTS series first came out on March 24, giving many fans a treat despite the mini hiatus. Stana explained on Twitter the BTS series is her way of celebrating the tail-end of production until April 17, or three days before Castle 7x20 airs.
