Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare vs. Titanfall: Advancement in Technology Examined; Frontier’s Edge DLC Announced

The COD series is taking quite a number of firsts in the upcoming "Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare" title. Apart from being the first time that the title has given a different gameplay, setting and feel for the game--opting for a futuristic approach with exoskeletons for fighting weapons rather than your regular guns--it's also doing quite the big leap in terms of technology.

Developer studio Sledgehammer Games has promised that instead of just recycling the usual engine and code from previous iterations, the three years' worth of development of the "Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare" may be one proof that shows how more time in the drawing boards can boost the quality of the title.

"We have new rendering, animation, physics and audio systems. This is Sledgehammer's new COD engine. The new tech that is driving our lighting and rendering engine couldn't have happened on last-generation [machines]," said Sledgehammer's Michael Condrey as quoted by Eurogamer. This basically means that the developers have created the engine from the ground up for a brand-new experience.

For the more technically-conscious gamers, there will also be the expected resolution boost when compared to its most recent predecessor, "Ghosts." Sledgehammer has also promised that they are striving for complete parity in resolution for both PS4 and Xbox One, something that was not showcased by the last COD game.

Perhaps again, this expansive recreation of the code and experience of the COD franchise can be traced to how the studio was able to focus on the game to bring it back to the level that hardcore fans of the franchise had loved.

"We really have to thank Activision, not just for the extra year, but for the singular focus," said Condrey in another interview quoted by GameSpot. "Three years to get to next gen. the current gen game--and there's more news to come about that--never got in the way of our ambitions, it never stopped us from being super creative about taking full advantage of the next-gen hardware."

Another developer, High Moon Studios, is taking the lead for the current-gen versions of the game, which also allows let Sledgehammer Games focus solely on the next-gen development.

The Newest 'Titanfall' Goes to the Future of Fighting

Following the release of Expedition, the first DLC pack for "Titanfall," players of the game can now look forward to the next expansion pack, titled "Frontier's Edge."

"Today, we would like to announce Frontier's Edge, the second DLC pack for 'Titanfall.' Pushing the battle to the furthest reaches of the universe, Titanfall Frontier's Edge introduces three exciting new maps including the isolated mining outpost of Dig Site, the exclusive beach resort of Haven and the mining hub on the side of a mountain known as Export," said Respawn Entertainment in the official "Titanfall" Web site.

This is the second of the three content packs that the developers have promised. For this expansion pack, you'll be dealing with conflict in the future, particularly between the Interstellar Manufacturing Corporation (IMC) and the Militia.

Frontier's Edge promises to make use of the specialty of "Titanfall," which is the experience of being pilot or Titan in a flash, and exploring the many ways by which you can overcome the battlefield with your action and fighting style.

Like the previous content pack, Frontier's Edge will be out for $9.99m but it will be free if you've already bought the "Titanfall" Season Pass at $24.99 for the Xbox One, Xbox 360 or PC version of "Titanfall."
