It’s a tall claim but Juan Manuel Marquez of Mexico believes that he’s undefeated in the four fights against Manny Pacquiao of the Philippines. One of the greatest Mexican boxers, Marquez said in a recent interview that even before knocking out Pacquiao in 2012, he already had the number of the Filipino boxer if not for the judges.

“The last three fights with Manny, I won the fights,” Marquez stated to thaboxingvoice.com on YouTube. “A lot of people know what happened in those fights. In the first fight, I won a close decision, but [it] was a draw. The second fight, I won another close decision—maybe two points, three points. In the third fight, I won very clearly…I won the four fights– why another fight?”

The 41 year old Marquez has 56 wins (40 knockouts, 7 losses and 1 draw in his boxing career since turning pro in 1993. His most exciting and memorable knockout win came against Pacquiao, whom he knocked out on Dec. 12, 2008 in the 6th round of their bout held in MGM Grand, Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA. Since that win, Marquez has split his last two bouts. He lost to Timothy Bradley on Oct. 12, 2013 but won against Mike Alvarado on May 7, 2014.

Pacquiao and Marquez fought to a draw in their first fight on May 8, 2004 and then Marquez won a controversial split decision win over the Filipino on May 13, 20018. Pacquiao won the third bout on Nov. 11, 2011 via a majority decision victory.

Meanwhile, Pacquiao is busy setting up a fight against undefeated American Floyd Mayweather Jr., who up until now haven’t agreed to the super fight which has been hyped for years now. If Mayweather-Pacquiao doesn’t fight, the Filipino is looking for other options for his next bout in 2015. A fifth bout with the boxer nicknamed “Dinamite” is unlikely with the Mexican boxer’s recent pronouncements that he’s not interested in making that fight.
