Season 3 Episode 18 of “The Blacklist” showed Liz (Megan Boone) delivering her baby via emergency C-section. However, she suffered complications during the ordeal.

The episode started with Tom Keen (Ryan Eggold) and Liz escaping from the heavy gunfire by Mr. Solomon (Edi Gathegi) and his men as they interrupted their church wedding. Solomon goes after them and the couple meet an accident. They were able to hide from their assailants, although Liz noticed blood going down her leg.

Tom took Liz to a hospital for treatment. Red (James Spader) contacted Liz and said that she has to move because he cannot protect her and the hospital staff once Solomon finds out where she is confined. While she was being transported, her water broke and she was brought to a nightclub. The place was turned into an ICU for her emergency surgery. Liz was forced to have an emergency cesarean section to save her baby.

Nick (Piter Marek) guided Tom through the process, while the latter tried to comfort Liz. Later, Nick was able to deliver the baby safely, but Liz is still in a critical situation. When Red went in to see the baby, Liz threw him out and did not want him anywhere near her child. While Red was out, he heard a commotion inside and found that Liz had difficulty breathing. Nick said that she had to be placed in a medically induced coma. Liz apologized to Red about her earlier actions and tried to tell him something before the medicine took effect and rendered her unconscious.

Nick told Red that he needed a piece of medical equipment back at the hospital. Red called Cooper (Harry Lennix) to gather the task force and move Liz to the hospital immediately. Tom stayed behind with the baby. They made a decoy ambulance to divert Solomon. Inside the van, Liz began to flat line. While the others were exchanging gunfire with Solomon and his men, Nick was crying to pronounce Liz dead.

Red had to leave Liz with the team before the police arrived. He went back to Tom to share the sad news. Red assured Tom that he can be a father even without Liz and will learn quickly. Tom named the baby Agnes, which was what Liz wanted.

Entertainment Weekly notes that if Liz really died at the end of the episode, it will mean huge changes for the show in future episodes.

“The Blacklist” will air next on April 21, 2016 on NBC in the US and on Channel 7 in Australia.
